Songs of the Sky

I inherited a box of bristol cards when my father passed away. I held onto them not knowing what to use them for, but wanting them to be a project. I am forever taking photographs of clouds, always enticed to capture their ephemerality. I decided to put my endless cloud photos to use and draw each one on these little cards. There are over 300 cards in the box and I will over time use them all to document various bits of the sky. On the back I note when and where the reference photograph for the drawing was taken.

I am naming the series "Songs of the Sky" after Alfred Stieglitz, who photographed clouds throughout his career. He later renamed the works to "Equivalents" but I like the poetry of the first title.

I have also begun to draw some of these clouds at a larger scale, giving them their deserved size and attention.
